The Social Welfare Society registered (Reg.No A28/66) under the Charitable Society Act X11/1955 was pioneered late by Rev.Fr.Thomas Thumpayil, the Asst. Vicar of St. Michaels’ Church, Thathampally on 25 July 1966 with the wholehearted support of the parishioners. A Health Centre cum Hospital was started in 1967 with the active participation of the Rev. Sisters of the Adoration Convent. Rev .sisters of Assisi Convent (Franciscan Handmaids of Good Shepherd) has been serving the hospital from 1993. In the initial stage, the Health Centre cum Hospital functioned in a rented building near Thathampally Church. It was with the objective of incessant growth of the Social Welfare Society and Sahrudaya Hospital that the management decided to hand over the reins to the Archdioceses of Changansherry and Rev. Fr. Thomas Maliakel took over as the Executive director on 1st August 2011.
